The film centres around one single main character, Ben, who talks to camera, it's particularly quirky and quite funny. Ben is very positve to say he's merely a guy who holds advertising poster boards, he calls himself a "static outdoor information technician". The film follows him on his last day doing the job. The people he works with seem exageratedly grumpy and miserable, which contrasts nicely with his positivity and eccentuates it, I think this contrast makes the viewer like Ben more. We learn about Ben and very little about anyone else, everything we do learn is from Bens point of view, even the cutaways seem to be from his perspective. Bens clothing is bright and colourful, which also contrasts to the people and world around him, it also highlights his cheerfulness. I like that near the end of the film we see tha he has a love interest, the use of costume (she wears bright colours including the same rainbow gloves as him) helps express that the characters are probably quite similar in their outlook and therefore possibly meant to be together. I really like this film as its cheerful, unusual and such a simple idea.
This film is much less cheerful, it follows a young teenage 'chavvy' girl as she walks along a canal and talks to the amera about her life. This girl, much like many girls of her age, is not particularly positive, she has poor relationships with her mother and father, and only seems to be positive about past events spent with friends and practiciing dance routines. This character seems far more troubled and uses music to escape her troubles. It uses a lot of flashbacks and its tone is quite confessional. At the end there is a twist, she mentions keeping secrets from her mum and how little her parents notice of her, she then, shockingly, throws her newborn baby (which she has been carrying with her along her journey in a plastic carrier bag) into the canal. I like the idea of the twist and particulerly that it is such a shocking twist which highlights the issue of teenage pregnancy without being too cliche'd, I also really like the idea of talking fast to the camera while walking, it means we'reable to easily show our characters backstory, or at least key events to them.
